Burgundy bottles, champagne bottles and similar

Due to the weak shoulder shape of these bottles, it is not possible to indicate filling levels like the classic Bordeaux bottle. For these bottles, the distance between the cork and the wine is usually given in centimeters. It should also be noted that, especially with Burgundy wines, the fill level of a bottle does not have the same informative value as, for example, with Bordeaux wines. For a 50-year-old Burgundy, for example, even a fill level of 7 cm indicates little risk. 5 to 7 cm is considered normal for a Burgundy of this age. A filling level of less than 5 cm is considered first class. For champagne bottles, the air level between the bottom of the glass and the liquid level of the upside-down bottle is given in “cm”.
